  2. Don’t make your meals too large.
  3. Eat at the same time every day to keep sugar levels steady.
  4. Try to eat 3 times a day. Have a snack at bedtime if you're taking medicine or insulin.
  5. Choose foods that are lower in fat, particularly saturated fat.
  6. Include high fibre carbohydrate foods, such as beans, lentils, vegetables, fruit and wholegrain breads and cereals.
  7. If you are overweight, try to lose weight as this can lower your blood sugar levels.
  8. Exercise regularly, 30 minutes or more at least 3 - 4 times weekly.
  9. Measure your blood glucose levels regularly.
  10. See your doctor at regular intervals, and have your blood pressure and cholesterol checked and treated if high.
  11. Only drink alcohol in moderation, and do not smoke.
  12. Join support groups if you think they will help you, and maintain a positive “stay well” attitude.
